SX50....Aperture or shutter settings?
Feb 14, 2015
I'g thinking more than in terms of your own personal default settings. Is your SX50 unremarkably set more often in a shutter priority, or aperture priority? (Or other?) I was an aperture guy for years. But especially with this camera, I'm choosing shutter priority more lately. How about you?
Just curious as to if there'due south any sort of consensus with the SX50.

Hi Bob, I normally use both depending on the light etc, for macro its shutter speed every bit with the Raynox I don,t take much control over aperture, but for my birding its mix and match really, I don,t suppose this was much help.

Forget those and take command with Thousand.

I'm with B-rad, manual is best. If I had to cull, I'd opt to have control over shutter speed.

And to balance the argument, I'one thousand an Aperture Priority guy. Pretty well guarantees a right exposure - with the correct exp.compensation practical. With Shutter Priority,( if you make the incorrect choices), you could be shooting out of range of the available apertures and become a poorly exposed end result.
Much still, depends on your blazon of photography and as mine is predominantly mural work, Aperture Priority works extremely well.

Just in case anyone is unaware of the characteristic, 'Safety Shift' takes care of a situation where for instance the shutter speed has been set too high for a proper exposure. The characteristic will and then lower the shutter speed automatically.

With a D-SLR , It really depends on the shooting 1 does. I presume you were used to shooting film, with SLR, or had D-SLR's, Bob?
With such a small sensor in the SX50, the DOF is deep, weather its f3.4 or f8
Shooting at the telephoto end, there isn't much to command with Aperture , since we are already nearly f6.five.
Myself, nigh times I use Programme way, and adjust EV as needed.
Some times, I volition switch to shutter priority If I see too much motion blur, to gain faster shutter speeds.

I've just had the SX50 for about one month and I'm however learning the camera'south peculiarities and its strengths. Whatsoever I know nigh photography was learned on a Canon Insubordinate when moving picture or slide were the only options (and, at first, the only options I really had available to use were discontinuity and shutter priority). I ain a Rebel DSLR but I was never as taken past the early digital menus and it has seen far less use than my motion-picture show cameras did. I'm hoping the SX50 gets me back into photography on a regular schedule. My shooting style is predominantly nature/macro and landscape/architectural with aboveboard "portrait" fashion shots included when I head out to events.
Overall, given the type of photography I shoot and the abilities of the SX50 I have and will probable continue to employ "Av" priority mode. Adjustments to the camera in "M" mode are awkward when shooting candid shots and I don't require a hairshirt arroyo to get what I consider to be good photos. I notice program shift to exist useful but do notice information technology a somewhat difficult manipulation of the SX50'south controls. After a while though, since my work is largely of a similar style twenty-four hours to day, I'll see if I tin can work into one of the "C1/C2" modes for convenience.

AV mode for all my digital years but moved over to TV mode when I started shooting birds with my SX50. Recently I've been trying my hand at Manual style. We're not friends however but at to the lowest degree I'm trying

I'm mostly a Programme mode user and exercise dearest EV control with the camera as information technology seems to me to overexpose, peculiarly in bright sun. My sometimes second setting is a mix of Southward or TV, but those a fall backs since P gives me the nearly keepers. My gf happily shoots on Auto and I'm ever amazed as to how very well done Canon engineered this setting.

I normally use Tv mode when shooting non BIFs with P secondary and manual fashion 3rd. Choices for BIFs by and large HQ outburst in SCN mode. Sometimes will also utilize sports mode for BIFs.
